The advantage of a lighter flywheel is that less power is lost during acceleration. It takes a number of horsepower to spin the flywheel, and that horsepower does not reach the wheels. These are complicated calculations, but going from heavy standard to very light motorsport can make a difference of 10 hp, for example. This is important for acceleration, in terms of top speed it does not matter because eventually the flywheel is up to speed and that little power is no longer consumed.
It is usually doable on the street, but you will have to drive away from a standstill with more feeling to prevent the engine from stalling.
The single-mass flywheels often cause noise. Due to the light weight and the lack of damping, the vibrations from the engine enter the gearbox and there you can hear the inactive gear sets vibrating slightly. So if you find noise annoying, a lightweight flywheel is not recommended.
